What a weekend!
The 4 X 800 relay state record is back where it belongs; in the Brook!! What a run by John Galloway, Charlie Slaughter, Hunter Harwell, and Gram Denning! 7:47!!! For non-runners, that is smokin, flyin, jaw dropping, … …unbelievable!! Congrats to these guys for a great race and for being state champions.
The boys distance group had some great races: Hunter Harwell made a great kick in the 1600m to run a 4:22 and finish 2nd! Charlie Slaughter was less than a second behind Harwell for a 4th place finish. In the 3200m Charlie finished in 4th again, but ran a very smart race and almost broke up the Vestavia sweep. It was a great race by Slaughter, smart and gutsy, but just not quite enough to get on the podium. Charlie had a great meet added more points in the 800m. Charlie’s graduation means a great High School career has ended and it has been a joy to watch.
Gram Denning scored in the 800m along with the 4×800 relay. His relay anchor time was crazy fast and will serve him well going into his senior year.
The javelin had 3 guys qualify. Thomas Bugg, Jarrett Harrison and RL England all threw and finished in the top 20 in the state. Coach Austin Billings has 5 Javelin throwers in the state meet!
Gram and Hunter will both be back next year and will be among the best in the state.
Grayson Scott, who? Grayson Scott. The first season into her track career and already a state champ! Our High jumpers always shine at state meet. Camille Gillum (6th) and Ella Cobbs (3rd) also scored in the high jump.
The distance girls are always strong. Anna Balzli and Lily Hulsey both scored in the 800m, 1600m, the 3200m, and the 4×800 relay! Lily Hulsey blazed a season’s best 2:15 800m and Anna Balzli was MB’s top finisher in the 1600m and the 3200m!
Ellis Henley chunked the Javelin a personal best of 112’4” to score a 4th place finish and add to the teams total points.
The girls are young and every scorer but 1 will return! READ MORE

Check out an MB Track alum, Brian Schmidt, and the marks he is making at Western State Colorado University! Brian was a big contributor to the Spartans last year and seems to have continued this contribution to his new team. He has consistently been long jumping over 20’ and has finished 3rd a couple of times this year. Brian is scoring points in most meets and adding to the team score even as a freshman. Great job, Brian. VIEW STATS
